YOUR AUGUST MISSION TRIP!
HERE’S YOUR OPPORTUNITY… To go hands-on in helping the folks of Avery County, NC, dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Helene!
WHY AVERY COUNTY? They’ve simply not received the financial assistance or media spotlight to rebuild like Asheville did. Carmel was quick to support the families of Arbor Dale Presbyterian in Banner Elk at the first sign of need and now we’re connecting with the official Avery County Long Term Recovery Group (averyltrg.com). This organization is top-notch and knows the needs!
WHEN DO WE GO? The weekend of August 15th - 17th! The idea is to travel up to Avery on Friday in time to have dinner together in a lodge/housing suited to our needs. Saturday will be an all-day service project and then dinner and fellowship back at the lodge/housing. Sunday morning we’ll worship at Arbor Dale Presbyterian before returning home.
WHAT WILL WE BE DOING? Everything from painting to light carpentry, from debris removal to landscaping. It really depends on the size of our group and where the most help is needed in August. We’ll know a lot more closer to time. In addition to physical labor, we’ll need folks to be run errands, shop and prepare meals, etc. There’ll be plenty of opportunities for everyone to help!
WHO CAN GO? You need to be 16 years of age and up.
COST?$30/person. This includes a required Avery County Background Check and covers other incidentals.
WHEN’S THE DEADLINE? July 25th! The scope of the trip depends on the size of the group. The faster the trip fills the sooner we know what we’ll be helping with.
QUESTIONS? Email Stacey Champion (Outreach Committee Chair) at otchampion@gmail.com She’ll field all your questions, from registration to lodging to the possibility of just coming up for Saturday only.
